The troops are from the 3 races in the game : The Realm, The Clans and The Dark. After you have the resources you can create troops but be careful because when building the teams they can't be placed in formation as you will like to. The pathfinding is also a problem but we have the waypoints. Another good thing are the teleporting stones which allows travelling instant between maps but unfortunately only for heroes. After fights you can find different objects for your inventory objects that can be specific for different types of heroes.
Tehnically SF2 is remarcable for its gameplay and story. Graphics is better than in SF1. Sounds sucks but music is good. Aslso we cannot find any bugs. SF2 runs on less performant computers. Talking about gameplay it captivates, we consider it's better that Oblivion.
